Name a Jolly Pumpkin Beer for The Rare Beer Club!

One of the best parts of having a brewery is that we get to name the beers we produce. Now we are giving you that chance, but without all the permits and hassles. Our Spelt Saison with Blackberry and Pumpkin is the 7th beer that we have done for Kris and the Rare Beer Club. Much like our Rare Beer Club beer from last year, Rosie del Barrio, we want you to name it! Submit up to 3 names at the Rare Beer Club Contest Page by 5 pm EST, July 17th. The 3 finalists, as decided by us, will be announced on July 20th, from which the public will be able to vote to decide the final name to be announced on July 26th. 

The winner not only names our Spelt Saison, but also receives a 6-month membership to the Rare Beer Club!

Our members and beer enthusiasts have named quite a few of our exclusive club features over the years. One of our all-time favorites was Smokey and the Bois, brewed by the Bruery to commemorate our 20 year anniversary. You also named two other beers created for the anniversary, Mazel Hops! from Shmaltz Brewing Co. and El Monstruo Lúpulo brewed by Cigar City. If you’ve landed on this page in between contests, keep checking back or get on our mailing list at the bottom of this page as we plan to hold 3-4 contests a year!

Contest Details

Submit up to three names by 2 pm PST on Monday, July 17th. Three finalists will be announced on July 20th at which time contest entrants, club members and the general public will be allowed to vote for their favorite choices. Contest winners will be announced on Wednesday, July 26th. If your beer name is used, we'll hook you up with a 6-month membership to The Rare Beer Club (two bottles per month club).

Note: To receive this RBC exclusive beer, you'll need to be an active member of The Rare Beer Club in October of 2017 when it will be featured.

Here's what you need to know about the beer and naming it:

The beer is a 7.0% Spelt Saison that’s been aged for 7 months in oak foeders which will contribute spice, and sour fruit notes developed through barrel aging and naturally occurring Brettanomyces yeast and Lactobacillus bacteria. Perle, Vanguard and Southern Cross hops were used along with pilsner malts and spelt to make the beer. A pumpkin and blackberry puree was added to the oak foeders 3 months into their resting period.

Editor’s note and super helpful tip: The last 5 JP beers featured were named Ursae Majorus, Los Vivos y Los Muertos, Rosie Del Barrio, Lupulo de Hielo, and Biere de Goord so you could say there seems to be a bias toward foreign language based names. If you run that route, please also submit the translation in parentheses.
